How to Wake Up Refreshed

Raise your hand if you love mornings... No one? Okay.. Kidding. But really, so many people hate mornings. Mornings can be tough, especially when you're waking up groggy and just want to stay in bed. To make mornings easier, I wanted to talk about some techniques for waking up refreshed and ready to take on the day, instead of waking up groggy and cranky.

Relax before bed.

One thing that can make mornings difficult is not being able to fall asleep the night before. I know for me, sometimes when my thoughts are racing it's hard to get to sleep, so something I always do before bed is relax (whether it be with a book, a Netflix show, etc.).

Keep water next to your bed.

Drinking water right when you wake up is SO important. I'll be honest, it's not something I'm all that good at. I don't always feel thirsty right when I wake up, so I basically keep water there and force myself to drink it.

I find that if I don't start drinking water right in the morning, I'll kind of neglect drinking enough throughout the day.

Don't drink caffeine right when you wake up.

I'm totally guilty of stumbling groggily to the coffee machine in the morning without waking up a bit naturally first. Something I've really implemented this summer is allowing my body to wake up a bit naturally before having my coffee, so it's more for enjoyment rather than something I need to have in order to get energized.

Dim lighting when it's close to bedtime.

I'm kind of crazy about my little twinkle lights that I have in my room. I almost never use my actual lights, so I'm either using natural light or my twinkle lights. It's a much nicer atmosphere to begin to get tired in if you don't have ugly super bright lights blaring.

Stick to a sleep schedule.

I know better than anyone that it can be hard when you're going to sleep early during the week for work or school and want to stay up a bit later on the weekends (which is totally fine), but it's important to do your best to not sleep in too late. At least Monday-Friday, I really try and get to bed and wake up at the same time. Friday and Saturday I let myself stay up a little later, but still wake up at a reasonable hour.

What are your tips for waking up refreshed and ready for the day?
