5 Staples You Need For Your Summer Internship

It's summer internship season! Getting an internship, whether it's your first or your third, means it's time to invest in some key items to help you start out your career. Internships typically take place in a professional environment, meaning you'll need to have more outfit options other than leggings and tee shirts - the usual college attire ;). Personally, I love dressing up cute for work, and shopping for some staple pieces was super fun! I wanted to share 8 staples you'll need for an internship, whether you're interning this summer or you hope to in the future!

1. A nice pair of dress pants

As you continue in your career, it will definitely be necessary to purchase a few pairs of dress pants. I definitely struggled to find dress pants that actually fit me right, and when I finally did, I swear I bought that pair in every color! I've had the best luck with Express when it comes to dress pants. They are tight enough on me that they don't look baggy, but loose enough to be comfortable and fitting. I wear this pair literally ALL the time!

2. A professional blazer

I've somehow accumulated a few blazer throughout college and it's been very smart. It's definitely nice to have a good blazer at your disposal for work and interviews. If you're interning in an environment that allows jeans, a blazer looks super cute with a pair of heels and jeans! They also look great over a nice dress and of course with a pair of dress pants.

3. A simple yet stylish purse

You'll likely be bringing a purse to work, and you want it to be professional. You don't want to show up with a bag that doesn't look like the bag a professional woman would carry! Black is always a safe bet, but if you aren't into black, neutrals are always a good choice.

4. Comfortable, cute shoes

I have a mix of heels and flats for work. If I am going to wear heels, I always, always opt for heels that are comfortable. Interns will sometimes do a lot of running around the office, or even running errands, and comfortable yet stylish pair of shoes is essential. Nude heels are great because they go with almost anything!

5. A printed dress

I absolutely love wearing dresses to work! They look very professional while also being comfortable for summertime. A good printed dress is definitely a staple as you enter to professional working world and want to look put together in a cute outfit!

What are some of your internship/work staples?
