I'm always looking for fun summer activities, and hiking is definitely one of my favorites! When you're heading out for a fun day of hiking, it can be hard to decide what to pack because you don't want to forget anything important. I wanted to share a post all about what to pack for a summer hike. If you have anything to add to the list, please leave a comment below!

Tons of water

This is definitely an obvious one, but water is one of those things I take with me EVERYWHERE, especially places where I know there will be a lot of physical activity involved. Hiking can be quite a workout, so it's important to take as much water as possible with you so you can stay hydrated! With all the exercise and time out in the sun, you'll be so glad that you're totally stocked up on water.

Comfortable sneakers/hiking shoes

Ideally, hiking shoes are probably the way to go when it comes to hiking, but not all of us have those (like me) so I'm fine in a comfortable pair of sneakers. It's probably not the best idea to wear brand new sneakers that you've never worn before, because you want to be sure that you'll be as comfortable as possible during your hiking trip!

Snacks

Let's be honest, snacks are SO important. You may not think you'll get super hungry during a hike but you definitely will! It's better to bring more snacks than you think you'll need rather than not enough snacks. The best things to bring are full of protein and healthy antioxidants.

Mini First aid kit

Hiking is a lot of fun, but you never know when something could happen. A small scrape from a tree branch could start bleeding and you'll definitely want band aids and other first aid items with you in case of emergency. The mini first aid kits you can buy are perfect for occasions such as hiking.

Backpack

Where are you going to put all this stuff?! Ah ha, a backpack. No, you don't need one of those super fancy, expensive hiking backpacks if you're not a super avid hiker, but a sturdy backpack is a great item to carry all your hiking essentials in. You don't have to deal with carrying a bag over your shoulder or anything like that. You'll probably forget it's even there!

Sun protection

If you've ever met me, you know I'm super fair! I'm always reapplying sunscreen to ensure that I don't get burnt. Even if your skin isn't as fair as mine, it's still SO important to wear sun protection when your outside under the harmful rays. Hiking outdoors in the summer is an awesome activity, but you'll definitely want to make sure that you're equipped with the proper sun protection.

My favorite sunscreen is currently the Blue Lizard® Australian Sunscreen SensitiveBlue Lizard® is a brand trusted by dermatologists and doctors to keep your skin safe under the sun. Their products are formulated with a unique zinc oxide formulation to provide broad spectrum UVA/UVB protection.

And you guys. Here's my favorite part. Blue Lizard® uses a patented Smart Bottle™ technology that causes the bottle to turn blue when exposed to harmful UV light. I love this feature because it always reminds me to reapply sunscreen throughout my time outside.

Blue Lizard® is conveniently available at WalMart, so I was able to grab mine off the shelves from my local store!
