How To Make It Through Busy Days In College

If you're a college student, many of your days are bound to be busy. Some days, however, may just feel like there simply isn't enough time in the day to get everything done. This is why I wanted to share some of my best tips for making it through those stressful, and hectic college days where everything just seems to be too much. Hopefully these tips will leave you feeling happy and accomplished after a crazy day!

Get to bed on time the night before

If you know you have a busy day ahead the next day, preparation begins the night before. Try your best to get to bed at a time that will allow you to get the adequate 8 hours of sleep required. Busy days are 10 times worse when we feel overtired. Getting enough sleep will ensure that your body is able to handle whatever lies ahead that day. I always like to drink some relaxing tea before I go to bed if I know I would like to be well rested for the upcoming day.


Create a nightly routine (check out my college nightly routine here), because this will help you relax before settling into bed. Ideally, it will help you get a better night's sleep as well!

Wake up early

When you know the day is going to be a busy one, sleeping in is only going to make it more stressful. As long as you're able to get to bed on time, set your alarm for 7 or 8 hours later and get right up when that alarm goes off.

It's important to get going as early and as efficiently as possible on crazy days. Make sure you have a morning routine to motivate you to get up and moving.

Plan out the day

Right when you wake up (or possibly even the night before), grab your planner and pencil in everything that you need to get done that day. This will ensure that nothing gets left off the list as the day goes on. As you complete task throughout the day, cross them out or check them off and make sure they're fully completed. There's nothing better than checking something off a list, am I right?

Stay fed and hydrated

I always have my favorite water bottle with me throughout the day and I make a point to stay hydrated. I feel like it's easy to forget to drink water when the day has gotten a bit crazy. You definitely want to avoid getting dehydrated, and the hydration will keep your energy high!

I also find that I'll accidentally skip a meal if I'm going through a busy day. DON'T do that though! If you need to go as far as setting reminders on your phone (yes, I've done it), go for it. Whatever will help you remember to grab some food throughout the day. Snack on healthy foods and don't skip any meals!

Take breaks

Working for hours and hours on end isn't all that productive to be honest. I find that I quickly get distracted if I've been working on homework or studying for too long. If you schedule in your breaks, you can look forward to them and you hopefully won't find your mind wandering off during time that you haven't designated as break times.

Take time during your breaks to check social media if you want, have a snack, chat with a friend, read a bit of a book, or do anything that you find enjoyable

Don't be too hard on yourself

It's no secret that college kids tend to beat themselves up for not completing everything on their to do list (I know I do!), but it's not productive. Sometimes there honestly just isn't enough time in the day to complete everything. Busy days take a lot`of prioritizing and ensuring that you're completing the tasks that are the top priority for the day.

  2. Great tips here, it's nice to see what other people have to say when you relate. I am also a college student, currently in my first year and also working. It's a learning experience on how to balance everything out. I struggle with motivating myself to get up early enough and to get work done haha. That's definitely something I need to work on. A tip I would add to get through busy college days is to take a breather, whether that be half an hour checking social media, or running out to just get some coffee and have a quick break.
