My Blogging Routine - Honestly Hannah

My Blogging Routine

Happy Monday friends! As I'm just starting up spring semester classes, I wanted to share my blogging routine. Since I'm a full-time student, things can get a little hectic when it comes to balancing my commitments with blogging. You all know how much I love routines, so I of course had to establish a bit of a blogging routine for myself!

Sometimes to hardest part of blogging can simply be coming up with ideas. I find that if I'm not constantly jotting down ideas and little things that inspire me on my notepad on my iPhone, I get really lost really quickly when it comes to blogging.

When I'm really struggling, I like to pull out a good old fashioned notepad and just start writing. Typically, this helps me get out of the blogging rut and ideas start to come to me.

The best advice I have for brainstorming is keeping a running list on your phone though. Some days I'll sit down to write a post and realize that I feel like I have nothing to write about. When this happens, I can simply pull up the notepad on my phone and I have a whole list of ideas in front of me.

Taking photos is the next thing I do. I like to have all the photos taken and ready before I go ahead and actually start writing my post. For me, taking photos can be a bit of a struggle, since I'm definitely not a photographer. My photography has slowly gotten better as I've become more experienced with blogging, but I still struggle sometimes to get the exact shot that I want.

For some of my photos, I use marble contact paper to create a nice background. It really depends on the type of post that I'm doing, whether I'll use the contact paper, a simple white background, or something else!

I use the Nikon Coolpix L120 for my blog photos. It isn't the BEST camera in the world, but I'm waiting until I'm able to make a bit more money from blogging before I go ahead and invest in a DSLR... But I am planning on making that investment in the future for sure!

Edit photos

I actually don't do too much to my photos in terms of editing. I usually up the brightness a bit, and sometimes I'll adjust highlights and shadows depending on how good the lighting was when I took the photos. In general, I keep photo editing really simple!

Start writing!

The writing part is definitely my favorite part of the blogging process. If you don't know this already, I love to write. In fact, that's why I started this blog in the first place! Ever since I can remember, writing has been one of my favorite hobbies. I love that I've been able to turn this blog from just a hobby, to a bit of a side job that I actually love!

I upload my photos into the post, and then I simply start writing.

I'm kind of weird in the sense that I love editing everyone's writing other than my own. I don't enjoy reading my work over and over again, but it's definitely an important part of the blogging process that needs to get done.

I typically don't edit my posts right after writing them (unless I'm running behind and need to schedule the post to go up the next morning), I usually wait a day or so the reread the post and edit it. That way, I have a bit more motivation to read over everything and check for mistakes or add anything.

Schedule the post to go up

I love that I'm able to schedule my posts to go up. I typically post Monday, Wednesday, and Friday, and I do my best to have at least a week's worth of posts scheduled to go up (although I do of course get behind sometimes)...

Scheduling your blog posts to post certain days at the same time each day gives your readers an idea of when to come back to see your latest post.

Share, share, share

You've probably heard that the most important thing about blogging may just not be writing up your posts, but sharing the heck out of them. I like to alert my followers that a new post is up via Instagram, Twitter, Facebook, Pinterest, and then my posts automatically share on Google+ and Bloglovin'.

For me, Pinterest is where the majority of my traffic comes from. I love creating pinnable images and sharing them to group boards and pinning them to my own boards. I've found a lot of success with Pinterest and it's helped my blog grow so much!

You may have heard other bloggers raving about Canva, but it's for a good reason! If you check out the image above, I created that one from Canva, as I usually do. I've discovered that bright, and fun images with big text are very successful on Pinterest. You want to create images that you yourself would pin if you saw them floating around on Pinterest!

That's basically it for my blogging routine, so I really hope you enjoyed and perhaps found some tips for yourself! I would love to know what your step-by-step blogging routine is, so feel free to leave that in the comments so I can read and respond to yours. As usual, please let me know if you have any post requests for the future!
