How To Be Productive Over Winter Break

When winter break finally arrives, us college students have the tendency to do absolutely nothing. Maybe we'll see a few friends, but most of the time is spent recovering from the crazy semester that has just ended. While it's nice to have a break and literally just sit around for a week or so, there comes a point when we need to get back into the swing of being productive again. There's a lot we can do over winter break to ensure that we're making good use of all the free time we have!

Make some extra money

Nothing feels better than making some extra money while you have extra time. There's a lot of ways for college students to do this over winter break. Try going back to your old summer job, or doing some babysitting. You could also try doing freelance work on the internet...Or even starting a blog!

I always feel more productive when I'm making some money. Plus, it'll give you some extra spending money for when you get back to school for the next semester, and of course you could put some (or all) of it towards your college tuition!

Prepare for the upcoming semester

I'm planning on doing a whole post on preparing for the upcoming semester, but it's truly a great way to use your time over break. Obviously, this doesn't take the whole break, but there's a lot of little things you can do all throughout break to prepare.

For example, if you didn't use a planner last semester, or your old one is falling apart, definitely invest in a good planner for the upcoming semester! Also, stock up on supplies like flashcards, pens (I swear all my pens run out during fall semester so I have to restock), and mechanical pencils (once you use these ones you'll never go back to regular pencils...).

Clean!

I know, this seems weird. Listen here, though. Cleaning always makes me feel SO productive. Over winter break, I like to wash my comforter (since I typically just wash my sheets as school, not my comforter because it's so big and bulky). I also like to clean up my room at home and clean out my closet/drawers and desk.

Get into a workout routine

I'm so guilty of completely slacking off when it comes to working out over winter break. Instead of slacking off, winter break can be the perfect time to establish a daily workout routine (or however often you want to workout).

Working out will make you feel so much better about yourself after pigging out at those holiday parties! Plus, it's the perfect way to start off the new year right.

Don't sleep in every day

While I absolutely love to sleep in, I totally admit that sleeping in can make it harder to get out of that morning fog. It's fine the sleep in sometimes, but it definitely shouldn't be a daily thing over winter break, although it may be tempting.

I like to at least try to get up a decent hour during the week. I love the Sleep Cycle app, because it will wake you up when you're in a light sleep, so you don't feel too groggy when you wake up!

Start a blog/online business

As I mentioned earlier, winter break is the perfect time to get working on something big! With free time on your hands, you have plenty of time to start that blog you've been thinking about, or maybe even open that Etsy shop you've been interesting in starting.

All those little things that you've been putting off or waiting until you "have more time" can get done NOW!

Blogging can be time consuming, and it's definitely not for everyone. If you're passionate about it though, you can definitely do it. I started my blog over winter break last year, so there's proof that now is the perfect time to get working on something that's been on your mind for awhile, whatever that may be.

What do you do to stay productive over winter break?

  1. Really great points! I think my main issue with getting things done is having so many ideas and not knowing when to start and freaking myself out because I feel like I don't have enough time in the day. Oh well, everything works out for a reason though. Going into the new year I definitely want to make more time for my blog though.

    1. I definitely have that problem too! There's so much I want to do and sometimes I just don't know where to start... making lists definitely helps me organize things and visualize everything that needs to be done so I can make a game plan :) best of luck to you in 2016!

    1. Omg yes such a problem! I'm used to going to bed late at school but being on winter break I really need to work on getting to bed a bit earlier and adjusting my sleep schedule.

  4. Love these, I always hate feeling like I'm falling into a rut of unproductiveness and sleeping in over break! I cleaned out most of my room at home and started buying textbooks for next semester to stay busy, I also tried to draft some posts for my blog :)
