My Self-Care Routine During The Busy Holiday Season

Establishing a self-care routine is essential to living a healthy lifestyle. I truly believe that taking care of your body and mind should be a priority. Practicing self-care is really easy, and doing just a few simple things throughout your day can make such a big difference. Today's post is all about my self-care routine during the busy holiday season. As a college student, the holiday season is not only stressful as a result of all the gift-buying, Christmas parties, decorating, cooking, etc., but it is also stressful because of finals. Up until a few days before Christmas, college students are studying like crazy for their upcoming finals. Along with these late-night study sessions and all the endless work, college students must deal with all the typical stress that surrounds the holidays. Having a solid self-care routine, and even taking just a little extra time for yourself during the holiday season can make a big difference in how your feel during this time!

I always think of Thanksgiving as the true "beginning" of the holiday season. Practically immediately after Thanksgiving, there is an absolute feeding frenzy at the mall to get all the best deals on holiday gifts. To me, this is truly when the holiday season begins. To really enjoy this wonderful time of year, you'll want to make sure you're taking care of yourself mentally and physically to ensure you don't get too stressed out. Here is my self-care routine for the busy holiday season, along with some tips for staying relaxing during this crazy time of year:

Get a restful sleep

As a college student, one of my biggest issues is the lack of restful sleep. Along with holiday shopping and other holiday plans to keep up with, college students are also worrying about upcoming finals. I often find myself lying awake worrying about these upcoming events, or waking up several time throughout the night. Stay hydrated

It's easy to forget to drink water throughout the day when you have a lot going on. Sometimes before I know it, it's 4 in the afternoon and I've only drank a bit of water. I find that staying hydrated helps with stress so much. It's important to stay hydrated all the time, of course, but it's easy to forget about hydration when we have a lot going on. Always take a water bottle along with you and sip throughout the day to ensure that you're drinking enough water.

Treat yourself by being cozy!

When I'm feeling stressed out, I love to put on cozy socks and pajama pants or leggings. For me, being in comfortable clothes makes such a big difference when it comes to feeling good. After a long day, it just feels better to be comfortable. Take off your tight jeans and slip into some soft, cozy sweatpants and throw on a pair of cozy slippers or sock!

Get at least 8 hours of sleep each night

When you're stressed, you may not be sleeping as well as you would if you were feeling relaxed. The holiday season gets so crazy and we all find ourselves awake until the wee hours of the morning sometimes, but sleeping should definitely be a priority during stressful times. Make sure to get at least 8 hours each night. Some people can function with less than 8 hours, but especially when you're feeling stressed, make sure to treat yourself to a bit of extra sleep.
