Summer Recap & Reflections - Honestly Hannah

Summer Recap & Reflections

Hi everyone! I've said this before, but where has summer gone?! I'm shocked that we're already into September. Today's post is going to be a longer one, as I'm just going to chit chat about this past summer, which seems to have passed by too quickly. I'm excited to return to college, even though packing to go back to school gets a bit stressful.

I'll start off by saying this: It's been a busy summer. Summer is usually a busy time for me, but this summer in particular was jam packed. I worked a summer job (that ended up practically being full-time), two internships, and really started getting serious about my blog. I took on a lot this summer. I don't regret it though! I've been able to get so much experience in the field that I'd like to get into, and I feel much more prepared for my future career. I was even lucky enough to get a part-time job offer from one of the internships I pursued! I feel so lucky to have been given some amazing opportunities this summer.

As I briefly mentioned, I started getting serious about my blog this summer. I actually started my blog midway through my first year of college, but I wasn't very active. I sporadically posted a few things, but I didn't really have any sort of direction. This summer, I made the choice to start putting a lot more time into my blog. I would randomly get bursts of inspiration/energy, and during these times I'd bust out like 3 blog posts that I could post throughout the week. I also decided on a blogging schedule, which I PRETTY MUCH stuck to throughout the whole summer. I decided to post Monday, Wednesday, and Friday. To some of you who post daily, you might not see that as much. I assure you though, it was a lot for me. This meant that I had to plan around my work schedule, the work I had to complete for my internships, plus making time to hangout with my boyfriend/friends. I think there were only one or two weeks that I wasn't able to stick to the schedule because of work, but I still managed to put out at least two posts these weeks.

Along with becoming more active on my blog, I started creating separate social media channels specifically for my blog. (What do you guys think about this?) Some people may disagree with this tactic, but I felt that I needed to separate my blog social media accounts and my personal social media accounts. I did this for a a reason: The simple fact that I have a lot of people from high school following my social media accounts. Of course, if they want to follow my blog accounts, that's great. I just didn't want to bombard anyone that didn't care with tons of fashion/beauty related posts. SO, if people who follow my personal social media accounts want to follow my blog accounts, yay! If not, that's okay too. I personally created a separate Twitter and Instagram specially for my blog. I continued to use the same Pinterest account and of course Bloglovin'. I've had so much fun growing these channels and engaging with other bloggers!

Aside from work and blogging, I spent a lot of my free time simply relaxing with my boyfriend (Zach), laying on the beach, or seeing high school friends. It was a very busy yet low-key summer, and that's exactly what I wanted. A year of college can take a lot out of you, and it's nice to just take a break and relax. I went on a lovely boat cruise, took a trip to Virginia to visit some family, attended a wedding, and visited Portland.

It was a truly perfect summer. Nothing too exciting, but it was perfect. I enjoyed being able to see friends I hadn't seen in almost a year, and I enjoyed learning a ton from my internships. Now, it's time to head back to school! I'm excited and nervous (as per usual), but I feel much more prepared this year. I know what I need to pack, and I already have a lot of the essentials from last year. I'm even using my own packing list from my recent post The Ultimate College Packing List!

Thank you all so much for the blogging support so far. I am truly so thankful and I hope you all had a fabulous summer! What did you guys do over the last 3 months?

XO Hannah

  4. I'm glad you had a great summer, girlie! I think it's a great idea to separate social media channels for the reasons you've mentioned. I've had people I know in "real life" think I have such a perfect life because of the way my Instagram account looked, but they of course, didn't understand that it's intended to look clean and polished because it's an extension of my brand and blog. Anyway, thanks so much for sharing, beauty, and I hope you're having a great week so far!

    1. I totally agree with you! I had a hard time deciding if I should separate them, and wondered if it was the right choice. In the end, I'm really pleased with my decision though!

  6. Sounds like a busy, but very fulfilling summer! As for Social Media, I have a separate FB page for my blog, but I keep my instagram as one - both personal and blog related posts. I think it just depends on your readers and how often you plan on posting blog-related content.

    1. Great point! I definitely agree about the separate Facebook page. I haven't even made a Facebook for my blog yet, but you've reminded me to get on that!

  13. I agree with you, we have separate social media accounts for our blog and our personal lives. And those that want to or don't want to follow one or the other, then fine! Cheers to a great summer and happy fall girly :D
