My College Morning Routine - Honestly Hannah

My College Morning Routine

Starting your day off right is essential if you want to have a productive day. I cannot stress the importance of having an effective morning routine enough. The way you start your day has a huge impact on your success throughout the rest of the day. Having an awesome college morning routine will actually motivate you to get up and going in the morning! Personally, I don't have any 8 am classes this semester. I found that I do best making my classes a bit later so I can actually get some things done in the morning, but you have to decide which works best for you! Either way, establishing a solid morning routine can help you stay productive and consistent. A good morning routine is also a great way to become more of a morning person. I have a full post called  How To Become A Morning Person In College, if you'd like to read that next! Let's get started with the routine:

7:30 - 8 AM: Wake-up

As I mentioned, most of my classes are a bit later in the day. Nevertheless, I still like to get up around the same time every weekday. I find that whenever I let myself sleep in, my morning becomes really hectic. If I'm feeling ambitious or have a good amount of work to do in the morning, I'll wake up closer to 7:30 AM, but usually end up setting my alarm for about 8 AM. I know some people like to wake up REALLY early in the morning, but this is just counterproductive for me. Waking up really early every morning makes me feel sluggish and I can't get anything done. Therefore, I like to wake up early, just not too early. I like to put on my favorite cozy slippers are start my morning!

8:05 AM: COFFEE (...and water)

Coffee is truly a godsend. I'm not ashamed to admit that I'm slightly addicted to my 1-2 cups of coffee a day. Mind you I do try to limit it to 1-2 cups each day, but it's still such an essential part of my morning. Maybe one day I'll attempt to give up coffee (but maybe not....), but for now it will remain my favorite part of the morning. Since I live at school, I use my Keurig mini every single day. I love it because I get to try out so many different K-Cups, but these ones are my favorite! While my coffee is brewing, I try to drink water. I always wake up really thirsty from not drinking water throughout the night, so I like to sip on some water while I wait. Drinking water in the morning (and throughout the rest of the day) is important for staying hydrated.

8:10 AM: Plan for the day

As I sip my coffee, I like to just take a few minutes each morning to plan out my day. I make a list of what I need to get done that day and double check my planner to see what's on the agenda today. I also just glance at my monthly calendar to see if I need to start studying for any upcoming exams. Taking just 5 minutes to organize your day before it starts truly makes a world of difference when it comes to having a productive day!

8:15 AM: Make bed

I always need to make my bed before starting my day. I do a lot of my work at my desk in my room, so I like to have a clean space to work. Seeing an unmade bed just makes me feel disorganized. Also, if you make your bed in the morning, you're less likely to want to crawl back into it throughout the day! I would highly recommend making your bed in the morning. You'll have a much better day, and it just takes a few minutes.

8:20 AM: Change into workout clothes and head to the gym

I usually go to the gym 3-4 times a week if I can. I'm definitely not a workout fanatic, but a light workout in the morning always energizes me for the day ahead. I only go for 30-45 minutes for some cardio! It wakes me up, since I tend to feel sluggish in the morning, and I feel great for the rest of the day. I grab my headphones and some water and head out for a quick workout.

9:00 AM: Shower and get dressed

When I get back from the gym, I obviously like to take a shower and get dressed. After showering, I'll of course brush my teeth, get dressed, and do my hair. I like to shower in the morning since I go to the gym. If you don't go to the gym in the morning, it can definitely be more efficient to shower the night before so you have a bit of extra time in the morning.

9:15 AM: Eat breakfast

I've made it a serious goal this semester to eat breakfast every single morning. Last semester, I would be on my way to class and I'd realize that I completely skipped breakfast. Even if you're late and running out the door, at least grab a granola bar, because that's better than nothing! I love to have this Apple Cinnamon Oatmeal, because it always keeps me full until lunchtime and it's ready in 3 minutes.

9:25 AM: Makeup

Next, I'll do either do a quick makeup look, or an everyday makeup look that's a bit more involved. I like to keep it pretty simple since I usually don't have a ton of time to spend sitting down doing my makeup, although I would like to!

9:30 AM: Check blog/schedule any upcoming posts

When I have extra time in the morning, I love to check my blog stats, work on upcoming posts, comment on other blogs, schedule any upcoming blog posts, etc. One of my biggest motivators for getting ready in the morning is knowing that I get to work on my blog if I get ready quick enough. If I'm slow with my morning routine, I usually won't have any time to play around with my blog.

10:00 AM: Head out the door to class or to the library
When it's time to head out, I grab my school bag and the things I need for my classes and I'm on my way!

I'm definitely an advocate for morning routines. College can be stressful, so having a go-to routine in the morning is important for not only productivity, but for your mental health in general. I always look forward to getting up and starting my day because of my daily routine each morning.

What are some of your morning rituals?

  3. Thanks for sharing your routine! You're so well-organized! :) My routine depends on whether I have to be at Uni early or not. If my classes begin at 8.00, then I'll have an express routine, otherwise I'll take my time :)
